Geography Bee

For the 29th year, the National Geographic Society will sponsor the National Geographic Bee.  Each school year, Esko students in grades 5-8 are invited to take a qualifying test in November/December.  The top 5th and 6th grade qualifiers compete in Winterquist Elementary School's bee, and the top 7th and 8th grade qualifiers compete in Lincoln High School's bee.  This year's bees are scheduled for Tuesday, January  9.  The 5th and 6th graders' bee will begin at 8:45 a.m. and the 7th and 8th graders' bee will start at 12:30 p.m.  Both will be held in the high school theater.

Each school champion advances to the next level of competition, a written examination to determine top state competitors. The top 100 scorers on that test in each state are eligible to compete at their state bee held in the spring.  This year's state bee is scheduled for April 6, 2018. State winners are then invited to the national Bee in Washington, D.C. scheduled for May 20-23, 2018.
