Bienvenidos todos a la clase de español III. Estoy segura que Uds. han estudiado durante el verano cada dia, ¿no? Si la respuesta es no…no te preocupes, vamos a repasar un poquito.

Welcome back! I’m excited to start the year, and hope that you all have a good experience in here, learn a lot, and have a little fun at the same time.

All rules from last year are the same as this year.

Same grading policies. 45% homework, 45% tests, 10% participation. Homework, if late, is worth half credit. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to see me. I won’t remember to come to you!!! If you are absent one day, you have one day to make it up, two days, two days and so on. I won’t budge on this one, so please, stay up to date on your homework. It’s too hard if you get behind!!!

This is a college level class, so some things will change a bit. My goal is to prepare you for your entrance exams into colleges, make you more conversational, and help you to read and write better in Spanish. You will do far more reading, writing, and speaking, and far less new grammar and vocabulary. The idea now, is to build on what you have already learned, and to USE IT!!!! If you haven’t studied Spanish all summer long, don’t worry….we’ll be reviewing. The following is an outline of what to expect this year.

September: Review present, preterite, imperfect, pronouns, vocabulary, and other grammar you learned last year.

October: More detailed use of the preterite vs. the imperfect tense, leyendas, short stories, conversations, arguments, and pronoun usage.

November: Interviews, questions, conversations, introduction to the subjunctive, commands, negative, plural, and formal.

December: Culture, emphasis on written language, piñatas, letters, essays, conversations.

January: Subjunctive tense, advice, recommendations, uncertainty vs. certainty, Spanish history, impersonal expressions, persuasion, etc.

February: deeper into the subjunctive tense, perfect tenses, reading for fluidity, pronunciation, accents, fairy tales, object pronouns, double object pronouns, and placements.

March: Don Quijote, the inquisition, Cervantes, arts, literature, invitations, directions, emphasis on reading.

April: Conversational skills, intense review of grammar rules from present to preterite, imperfect, subjunctive and compound verbs, interrogatives, object pronouns, commands, etc. Emphasis on speaking, accents, fluidity, use of the language.

May: Webquest. You will see then. Big project, I’ll fill you in when we get there.

In the beginning of the year, and when introducing new grammatical rules, I will speak English. However, the majority will be done in Spanish this year!! So get ready! It will get easier as time goes on, and you will learn, and understand without even realizing it’s happening!!! I am excited for you all to get to that point! You have been such a great class of students, and I know you can all handle it. If you have questions as we go, you know you can always ask me. I have 3rd period study hall, 4th period prep, am available before and after school, or you can email me [email protected].

Buena suerte y estoy segura que este año sera bueno para todos nosotros!

Sinceremente,

Señora Diedrich
