Junior Great Books is an enriched reading program that invites students to read stories for interpretation. The classes meet one time a week and the students discuss the stories using the text of the story to support their findings. In order for class time to be used most productively, all students are required to read a story a week and answer one or two questions in preparation for the weekly discussion.
In addition to Junior Great Books, Winterquist Elementary School has added the Jacob's Ladder curriculum. Starting with basic literacy understanding, students learn to critically analyze texts by determining consequences, main ideas, cause and effect, generalizations and themes.
