Today was a crazy day back!  We are going to have our spelling test on Friday so we got right to work on everything!  Our morning was consumed by two math lessons.  The first part of our math was grouping things in tens.  The kids loved working in teams, grouping things together.  Next, we worked on adding two numbers together and making a group of ten to make it easier.  Watch the movie tonight to see a 'how-to' on what we did.  After lunch, we got started right away on our new sound this week 'CH'!  We had fun sounding ch words out and listening for the sound in different words.  Then we read a story that had a lot of ch words in it!  You should hear some of the kids read and their expression!  WOW!   After phy ed we worked on vocabulary and grammar!  Grammar is easy this week.  All we have to know is capital letters on names of the days and months.  :)  Thanks to our daily message that we correct, we already knew this!  Finally, we ended by starting a story that we are going to write tomorrow.  It has to be in sequential order, which means the words first, next, and last.  Today the kids just drew the pictures of what is happening.  Tomorrow, they will start writing.  What a crazy, fun, and busy day!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

Brr!
Today was a lot of fun.  In math, we got to look at an abacus!  It was so cool to see groups of ten in a different way.  Then we got to work with it during centers.  One of the other centers was UNO!!!  We were so excited when we saw the centers today.  We also played a game with Miss C where we had to save up for a tent.  Then, we had phy ed.  We love going to phy ed.  After, lunch our third grade buddies cams and we read to them.  We are becoming such great readers!  Next, we worked on the food pyramid some more.  You should see some of the drawings we did.  After that, we had snack then music.  Finally we worked on a project that goes with our writing from yesterday and we ended with free play.  There will be NO SCHOOL on MONDAY due to the cold weather!  I can't wait to see you on Tuesday!!

It was so nice to see every one back in school today!!  I swear, the kids grow up so much while they are gone for this short little break!   We started our day getting to know our new table buddies.  We also had a new January book at our spots.  Ask your child who some of their new table buddies are.  After that, we had the morning message and calendar.  It was kind of tricky when the year was 2014!!! We thought Miss C had made a mistake but it is actually a whole new year!!!  Then, we had math where we worked with dimes and pennies.  There are 10 pennies in one dime.  This was pretty easy for us since we are always working with money at Cmart!  Then, we watched a short movie on food groups.  Ask your  child if they've eaten something from every food group today.  After lunch, we started our book FROZEN!!!!  We have been so excited to read this since most of us have already been to the movie.  Next, we learned about fluency and some of us read to Miss C for one minute today.  The rest will go tomorrow.  At the end of the day we had the Daily five where we wrote riddles.  I can't wait to read them all tomorrow.  There is a movie under 5.2 tonight!  It's pretty short.  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow.

Today was about as 'routine' as we could make it.  It helps a lot when we stick to our routine, but we make sure to have fun and enjoy the excitement of Christmas!  We started our day with reviewing for the chapter four math test tomorrow.  I can tell that most of us are ready to take the test tomorrow!  I can't wait to see how they do!  Then, had our December writing.  We had to write a story about Santa.  Some of us wrote about Santa driving a race car.  Some of us wrote about Santa having a sleepover.  They turned out great!  After lunch, we reviewed our high frequency words and Aleah read us a wonderful story about feelings!  She did a wonderful job!  Next, we practiced some of our grammar some more.  We are learning about places names and how they must be uppercase.  Then, we worked on our vocabulary words this week.  Today we talked about greedy, regret and consequences.  Kind of 'downer' words.  Finally, we ended with part of our theme test and free game day!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

This morning was a lot of fun!  We had the privilege to go and watch the kindergarteners perform their 12 Bells for Christmas play!  They did a great job.  Our class had a lot of fun singing along with the familiar songs from last year when they performed.  After, we had a special surprise from Ceci's grandma!  It was so SWEET of her to think of us!  :) Next, we went to music.  At music we watched our performance from last night.  Then we watched a fun version of The Nutcracker.  After lunch, we worked on our 'sh' sound and started our Theme 3 test.  We just completed the comprehension portion today.  After library, we worked on our new high frequency words and then read a story about King Midas.  Finally, we ended with math.  Today was kind of a different day for math.  We learned about writing numbers with letters and then we had a quick quiz.  Finally, we ended with a number sandwich game.  Make sure to watch the math movie tonight.  It's the final one of 2013.  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow.

Today was a great day back!  This morning was a lot of fun!  We started with math centers.  We are practicing making new groups of ten!  Then we had art where we made our own Christmas tree.  We also took our spelling pretest!  Don't forget to practice the 'sh' sound this week!  After lunch, we cleaned up our art and headed down to our dress rehearsal of the Christmas Concert!  After that we learned about the sh sound some more.  TONIGHT:  There will be NO MOVIE tonight for math since it is a busy night for everyone!  Also, please have your child in our classroom between 6:00 - 6:15 tonight.  You will pick them up in the classroom after the grand finale!  I can't wait to see you all tonight!

Today was such a great day!  The kids have been pretty excited for Christmas, so it has been kind of hard to focus, but today they were ready to learn!  We started our day learning about American heroes!  One that we dug deep into was Martin Luther King Jr.  We will be learning more about him in February.  Then, we had math.  Since we spent extra time on Martin Luther King Jr., math was a little bit shorter.  It's amazing to see how far they have come in math this year!!  Keep up the hard work.  At lunch, we were inside again, so we watched Charlie Brown's Christmas, one of my favorites!  Then we had third grade buddies!  We love our buds.  Next, we took our spelling test.  Max and Isaac were our Sparkle champs!  Then we spent the rest of the day working on a surprise and shopping at Cmart.  What a great day with a bunch of great kiddos.  I can't wait to see you all on Monday!

Today was a great day!  We started with math centers.  The centers were 100 ants, card games, working with Miss C., writing tens and ones with a partner, and reading math books or doing flash cards.  Then, in social studies we learned about American symbols.  Some of the symbols we learned about were The Statue of Liberty, and the eagle.  Ask your child if they know anymore.  Then, after lunch we learned about compound words.  Snowman, brickyard, snowflake, something, anthill, backpack, sandbox.  Then we ended our day with the Daily Five.  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

It is so nice to not have a bunch of snow days and late starts.  We are so good when it comes to our routine.  Today was a lot of fun with math centers.  Then we learned about different leaders.  Ask your child if they know if the Queen of England was voted in?  This afternoon we read Miss C's very book from when she was little.  Ask your child about it.  Then we wrote letters to Santa.  I hope he writes back.  We ended our day with the Daily Five.  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow.
