Today was a super duper day!   In reading, we reread "Blast Off" and practiced writing a couple of sentences with verbs in the now.  Then, we had Daily 3.   For word work, we played rainbow roll -n-write.  For writing, we started making our sloppy copy of our animal report.  The last center, we filled out a sheet on the characters, the setting, and the plot of "Blast Off".  In art, we did scratch art.  We took a Popsicle stick and drew something from the story "Blast Off".  This afternoon we had music and library.  In math, we worked on story problems.  We practiced solving stories that had an unknown partner and sometimes an unknown total.  We will keep working on these!  See your smiley faces tomorrow!

Happy Earth Day!  For reading we read the story "Blast Off".  It was about two kid bears who were playing on a rocket ship in the park.  They took an imaginary adventure to a green planet.  They met a little creature and learned the words "Bleeble" and "Zight Zop" meaning hello and good-bye.  We had PE this morning.  We earned a free game day because we had the  most participants in Jump Rope for Heart! Way to go!! This afternoon we had music.  We have been working really hard and practicing our spring program songs.  Since it is Earth Day we learned ten ways to keep our world a better place.  We also listened to the song "What a Wonderful World" and painted a picture to go along with the song.  In math we took our chapter 8 math test.  I am eager to see how we did.  I sure hope we did awesome!  Our day ended with groups.  I hope you all have a good day!  Zight Zop :)

Molts
Hi, it was a good day!  In reading, we read the story "Night Flight".  It was about two bunnies that tried to fly.  They were unsuccessful!  We are working on the long i sound this week with spelling patterns of igh, ie, and y.  This is tricky!  For grammar this week we will be working on verbs that talk about NOW!  We had music and PE for specialists today.  For science, we looked at our caterpillars, our milkweed bugs, and our plants.  The caterpillars looked a lot bigger and they had made webs.  Our milkweed bugs had molted which means they shed their skin.  The molts for the milkweed bugs look like tiny spiders.  We also watched a brainpop video on insects.  Math was working as a whole class on our math pre-test.  I think we are ready for the real test tomorrow! Our day ended with some handwriting and groups! Have a good night!

Hello! On this snowy day, we were busy learning. This morning we had reading.  For reading today we read our decodable reader "Duke, the Singing Mule".  We practiced our spelling words on whiteboards.  We also practiced writing sentences that had a verb in them. We got some new insects for science.  We got five caterpillars.  These caterpillars are special ones.  They are called Painted Lady Larva!  We also measured our plants.  Some grew and some stayed the same height.  This afternoon we had music and library.  It was checkout day! In math, we cut out dollars and we had to think about how much change we would get back if we paid someone $1 for an item.  I hope I will see all of you tomorrow.  Cross your fingers for the snow to STOP!

It was a pretty good day!  Today for reading we did quite a few things.  We read the story called "Amazing Animals".  We learned about animals and something special about each one.  We worked on ABC order and on verbs some more.  In science we watched a brainpop video about plants.  This afternoon we had music and PE.  Then, we had math.  Math was working more on our whiteboards with unknown partners.  Tonight for your homework you will see that you need to find the missing partner for 100.  Remember to draw circles to get to a decade number, then draw sticks and maybe more circles after that!  :)  We ended this day with groups.  Everyone did a nice job at working on their MUST DO- CAN DO sheet.  I'll see your superman and supergirl faces tomorrow!

Today was a pleasant day!  This morning we had Daily 5.  For word work we got practice our spelling words by playing on the smartboard and ipad. At the writing center we got to write a poem about an animal.  In library we read a story called "Lacy Walker Non-stop Talker".  During work time we had to lose our voices like Lacy in the story.  This made work time SUPER quiet!  Computer today was watching a Brainpop movie on butterflies. In science we looked to see if our plants had gotten any bigger.  We did a little bit of art again today.  We painted the secondary colors which are orange, green, and purple.  We made these by mixing colors together.  We finished up with math.  Math today was working on a worksheet together with a partner. We were working on adding with story problems.  We did a very nice job showing our work!  See you all tomorrow!

It was a good and busy day!  For reading today we read the story "Mystery of the Night Song" with a partner.  We worked on finding two meanings for the words bump and wave.  We had to draw pictures of the two meanings and then write a sentence for one of the meanings.  We also worked on the contractions 's, n't, and 'll.  Science was quick today.  We took a look at our plants and drew a picture of what it looked like today in our science journals.  We also observed our nymphs.  I think all of them have hatched now!  We had time for a little bit of art too.  In art we painted three circles the primary colors of red, yellow, and blue!  Tomorrow we will be continuing this project.  Our day ended with math.  For math today we worked more on adding 2-digit numbers together.  The cool thing about today was that we got to choose which strategy we wanted to use to solve the problem.  It was neat to see which strategy everyone chose to use!  See all your super faces tomorrow!

Nymphs
It was a pretty good day!  In reading we had to first take our spelling test from last week that we missed on Friday.  Then, we learned our new sounds for this week.  We are working on the /j/ sound with the spelling of -ge and -dge.  We are also working on the /s/ sound with the spelling of ce.  We read the story "What's in the Hedge?" and discussed beginning, middle, and end.  For grammar this week we are working on words that have two meanings like the word bat.  It can mean the animal or a baseball bat.  Our specialists today were music and gym.  For science today we checked out our milkweed bugs.  We noticed that some of them have hatched into nymphs. Also, some of our eggs are orange and red.  We also observed our plants.  We checked to see if they had grown.  If they had, we measured how tall they were. In math we learned a new way to add 2-digit problems.  This method is called the new group above method.  We all seemed to do a pretty good job with this new strategy. I was impressed!  Our day ended with groups.  In groups we had a choice.  We either were word detectives or we did read to self from any book in our classroom library.  I hope I see all of your smiling faces tomorrow!?

Hi, it's Ms. Battaglia's class speaking!  In reading we had Daily 5.  For Daily 5 we reread the story "On Saturday" to someone. We found words on a friends word search at the word work center.  At the meet with the teacher center, we read a book and did a page out of our packet.   Also,  we continued working on our poems at the writing center.  At the read to self center we did a marvelous job reading books from our book bags.  We had library and computer today.  In computer class, we got to go to a website and look at animals.  For science we did a couple of things.  We looked at our plants.   Three groups plants had started to grow! The rest of us are patiently waiting for ours to sprout.  In our science journals we put the stages of a beetle's life in order.  We also labeled them.  Math was adding two digit numbers together.  We used sticks and circles to help us find our answers.  *Remember if there are more than ten circles you need to group them!  I hope I see you all tomorrow!

It was a SUPER day!  In reading, we learned about the -oke family and the -ose family.  We had Daily 3.  We put our spelling words into a word search.  We started writing our poems today and we read with the teacher.  After recess we had science.  In science we made milkweed bug habitats.  Each one of us had a very important job to do in creating these habitats.  We needed to make sure that we were giving the eggs- air, water, space, and food!  After science we went to music and library.  We get a special surprise at the end of the day from Mrs. Staples for being so good! :) Math was working on adding two items together.  We pretended we were at a sidewalk sale and had to find the total of two items.  The main thing we learned today was remembering to circle a ten (DIME).  Our day ended with groups and journaling.  I'm looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow!
