I can't believe that we only have 17 days left of school!  Our time has flown by and it has been such a blast!  I have big news to share with the kids in class, but I wanted to let all the parents know before I share it with the kids.  Next fall, I will be teaching in Hibbing.  I have accepted the position with much excitement,  but a heavy heart to leave Esko.  For those of you who do not know, Hibbing is my hometown where most of my family resides.  I will be teaching first grade there and coaching soccer and track.  With all of that said, I want you to know that these next 17 days are all about your child and being an Eskomo.  I have all summer to plan and prepare for my kiddos in Hibbing, but for now I am an Eskomo through and through.  I want these last weeks to crawl by.  I haven't told the students yet, anticipating a few to be 'bummed out'.  I know it's a comfort having your old teacher there when you go to a new grade, but I'm going to really push what WONDERFUL hands they will be in next year and that they will LOVE every minute of second grade.  I plan on telling the kids tomorrow (Friday) at the end of the day, to give them the weekend to talk with you about it.  More and more students are hearing about it, as my tracksters know, and I don't want them to hear through the grapevine.  I wanted to wait a little bit longer, but most of the second graders already know.   Thank you so much for such wonderful kiddos!  The end of the year is going to be an extra tough one saying goodbye to such amazing kids, thanks to all of their wonderful parents.  :)

What a great week!  We had root beer floats and wrote about how to make them!  Check them out in the hallway!   We also had BUTTERFLIES hatch in our room!  They are beautiful!  This week we were busy working on many different surprises for our moms for Mother's Day!  I am such a lucky teacher to have students that have such wonderful moms.... AND DADS!!  :)  I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend and I can't wait to see you all on Monday!

Happy May Day everyone!  We had a great day, even though this weather is so goofy!  We started with math centers where Mrs. Young, Collin's mom came and helped out with our word problems!  Thank you so much for coming and spending your day off from teaching third grade with our first grade class!  After that, we made May Day baskets!  The kids were so creative and worked really hard on their baskets.  Then, we read Miss C's favorite book Strega Nona!  We all rated it five stars!  Then we ended our day with the Daily 5!  What a great day!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!!

This is such a fun time of year in first grade.  Every one is reading and learning new things!  We are writing about books and if we enjoyed them!  Some of us are even 'blogging' on Sophia now!  I am so impressed with this group and how far they have come!  Today, we read about insects in science.  We love reading nonfiction books!  This afternoon we had Daily 5!  It was a lot of fun writing about different books that we read!!!  What a great day!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

Today was a great day and this week has been BUSY, but awesome!  We have been working really in hard in school and not looking outside at the CRAZY weather.  I think we have all felt some type of frustration with the weather this week.  ICK!  Today was a very exciting day!  We had two friends that joined us this afternoon.  Megan and Kate!  They came to talk to us about bullying.  Unfortunately, they were both bullied all through middle school and high school due to things they could not help.  Both of our friends are in wheel chairs and have cerebral palsy.  We had so many questions for them.  Some of us were really nervous about meeting them and some of us even said that they had never met someone in a wheel chair before.  After we talked with them and asked questions we all found that they are just like us!  Layla said it perfect, " They may be different on the outside, but they have a heart just like us."  :) It was so sweet.  Today was one of the specialist days of the year.  Each and every student was very respectful and learned so much!  What a beautiful day!  I can't wait to see you all on Monday!

Today was a short day, but a really fun day!  We came to school and went STRAIGHT to computer.  There we looked on Britannica for our favorite animal!  Then, we had lunch and recess.  This afternoon we took our spelling test.  It was tough, especially with a short week.  Then, we had centers.  One of the centers we worked on time, one was with money, one was with alphabetizing and the other was writing poetry.  When we were with Miss C. we took a quick quiz on money.  Finally, after we danced away in music we came back to our classroom to find that the EASTER BUNNY had come!   It was a lot of fun looking for our baskets and then celebrating Stella's Birthday.  After all that, we had Cmart!  I hope everyone has a fabulous Easter and I can't wait to see you all on Monday!

Can you believe this weather?  WE SURE CAN'T!  It was really sad today when one of our classmates described spring as snowy!  YIKES!  Hopefully this is the last of it.  During math centers today we also had some language arts centers!  At one center, we worked on our final copy of a special poem.  By the smartboard, we alphabetized Easter eggs.  The other centers we worked with money and story problems.  After math, we had science.  We now have caterpillars in our science!  We were so excited to see them and we can't wait to see their life cycle!  Most of us think that  they will turn into butterflies, but we will have to wait and observe their changes.  This afternoon, we wrote sentences about animals with great verbs such as wiggled, slithers, creeps, and so on.  Then we alphabetized our spelling and high frequency words.  We also completed the writing portion of our theme test.  It was a great day, even though Mother Nature is annoying.  :)  I can't wait to see you all for a FUN day tomorrow!

We started out our day doing math!  It was a great day in math as we are doing multi-digit addition with MISSING PARTNERS!!  It is unbelievable how much these first graders know!  I was amazed how well they did with me being gone yesterday!  WOW!  Then, we finished our bunny baskets!  They turned out cute!  The kids will be bringing them home on Thursday, in time for the bunny to come this weekend.  This afternoon we worked on our new high frequency words, sound, and alphabetizing!  SO MUCH FUN!!  Finally, we ended the day watching Frozen!!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

It was a great day back after our unexpected long weekend.  Due to the snow day, we took our Friday spelling test today and we will not be taking our spelling pre-test this week.  We started our day with our math centers.  We are getting SO GOOD at double digit adding!  This has by far been the most beneficial chapter to FLIP!  The kids are at all different levels of this new and challenging concept and it is so nice to meet all of their needs and challenge everyone!  :)  During science we checked on our plants, beetles, and milkweed bugs!  SO MUCH GROWTH AND CHANGE!!This afternoon we worked a lot on making rhymes!  It's very tricky for this age.  I hope you all enjoy the weather!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

Today was a great day!  We started out finishing up our writing about our Spring Break.  Collin shared his with the class.  Everyone did a wonderful job on this assignment, but his was above and beyond and you felt like you were really there when you read it.  After that, we had math centers.  It was so nice getting back into our centers and being so engaged in our math learning!  Money can be tricky, but it really helps having Cmart!  Then this afternoon we worked on rhyming and started a poem!  We also practiced more of our new sound and the new high frequency words.  We also read a story about Saturday.   Finally, in Science we got NEW INSECTS today.... MILKWEED BUGS!!   So now we have the mealworm beetles, plants, and milkweed bugs!  So many life cycles to observe!!!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!
