Happy Tuesday!  This morning we had language arts.  We continued working on the short i sound today. We built short i words with a partner, we read the story "Big Rigs" in a big circle, we wrote sentences about ourselves swimming.  We even got to play a really fun game called PIG!  This helps us practice our high frequency words.  Ask your child how to play the game.  We had music and PE.  In math today we learned more about patterns and break-aparts of 9.  Again, we got to play melon monster!  This time our monster could eat up to 9 watermelons!! Our day ended with a practice fire drill and social studies.  We learned about inventions and transportation.  We know that everything continues to change in our world.  Have a wonderful night!  Enjoy this beautiful weather.  I am excited to see you tomorrow!

Happy Monday! Today was a productive day. We started our 2nd week of language arts. We took a spelling test, and the students know if they scored 100% today they will test on the challenge words ONLY on Thursday. After this we learned some new vocabulary and robust vocabulary (covered, everything, guess, through, woods, surprised pleased; edge, ventured, described, hesitate, anonymous, unselfish, and satisfied). We will keep picking apart the words as the week progresses. We did a read aloud about a field mouse and a frog. Then we came up with a diagram of character traits for each character. For centers we wrote a letter to our new star students, did an "I spy" sight words activity, did read to self, and had small group instruction time with the teacher. After lunch we had PE and library along with our final day of MAP computer testing. We did a math lesson on counting on to solve mystery addition and subtraction equations. HW tonight! Enjoy your evenings! Reminders- Get your $30 in for our 2nd grade activity fund (much thanks!) Pictures Friday Homecoming Friday!

Right when we got here we said The Pledge of Allegiance.  This is an important time of day.  Next, we had math.  In math we worked with the partners of 8.  Make an S and do not wait, go right back up to make an 8!  After we finished our activity sheet, we worked with MONEY!  We sorted our dimes and nickels.  We also stamped dimes and nickels and then worked as a team to write how much each was worth.  Everyone did fantastic.  Next, we took our spelling PRE-TEST!!! A lot of kids got 100% or were very close!  After that, we had social studies.  During social studies we learned about classrooms from the past.  In their classrooms they didn't have Cmart, lunchroom, more than one room, toys, and so much more.  Then, we made our very own chalkboards.  Check them out in our backpacks tonight.  After lunch, we took our FINAL MAP TEST!!  We did wonderful.  Then we learned about our new sound this week........I.  Then we had library.  Don't forget, Mondays are check out days.  After that, read a story.  Lindsey was our secret reader and did a fantastic job to earn everyone 5 cents.  Finally, we ended with correcting some of Miss C's sentences.  I can't wait to see you tomorrow.

It was a fun day!  This morning, we took the last part of our MAP testing.  Yay!!  We are done with our beginning of the year MAP tests for reading and math!  For language arts we started working on the short i sound.  We also worked on the naming part in sentences.  Have your child tell you a sentence tonight and also the naming part of that sentence.  Writing this week, we will be working on writing sentences about me.  We had music and gym today.  For math we learned all about break-aparts of 8.  We even got to play Melon Monster.  It was a fun game!  Our day ended with social studies.  We learned about school in the past.  We learned that children used to go to school in ONE room filled with kids from every grade.  We also learned that they used to write with feather pens and chalkboards.  Tomorrow we will be doing a fun art project dealing with school in the past.  I hope everyone has a good night.  Get out and enjoy this beautiful weather!  I can't wait to see all of your smiling faces tomorrow!

We had a very busy Friday. We did our morning meeting, math warm up, and then got into language arts centers. Our centers have been goofy this week as we've had no language arts lesson due to our testing. We went to lunch, had music, then did a math lesson. We worked on counting on, and using additon and subtraction rules to complete a function table. After that we got out our red math cards and practice quick addition and subtraction facts. We had another round of MAP testing in the computer lab, before coming back and starting Friday Art :) We are making scuba divers/snorklers to join our ocean classroom! We ended with free time for our turtle time minutes, then bus home! Working on their monthly journal-"In second grade I hope to..." Math flash cards Snorklers! Reminders: Pictures Friday, Sep 27th Turn in your $30 Activity Fee (thank you!!) We still could use 5 boxes of cereal to make our book boxes!

When we started our day we started  by catching up on Word Work we had not completed.  The word work was rainbow writing.  Some kids enjoyed this time listening to books.  Then we voted on our classroom bully picture.  Congratulations Lindsey on a job well done!  Everyone's drawings were fabulous.  Hopefully, Lindsey wins the first grade round.  Next, we were totally surprised by a trip outside.  Then we had phy ed!! In phy ed we played capture the flag.  It was a blast.  After lunch, Noelle;s mom and brother, Isaac, came in.  SO CUTE!!! Then our third grade buddies stopped by to read with us.  Next, we took our language arts test!  We did great!  After that we had math.  DId you know that you can switch the numbers you add and you get the same answer?!! That's what we learned today.  Finally, we had our spelling test and ended our day with CMART!!! I can't wait to see you all MONDAY!!

We had a GREAT pajama party today!  It was the best day ever!!  This morning we took two tests.  We had our spelling test and we took our weekly reading test.  Everyone did a nice job on these!  Before lunch, we got extra outside time with Mr. Harker.  This afternoon, we had gym and music.  Then, we read a story called "Pat Can Help" and we highlighted all the short a words.  Almost every word got highlighted!  Math today was learning all about the switch partners for 7.  We learned that the total stays the same even though the numbers switched.  Our day ended with fun Friday!  We got to have free choice and shop at B-Mart!  Some of us got some really cool stuff, while others decided to save up.  I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend.  I am eager to see you on Monday morning!

Today we had a better day. We started off with morning meeting, then did a large reading comprehension test. We took a brain break and played the game "Count Around," where whoever says ten is out. Then we finished our Beginning of the Year Reading Assessment! Yeah! We took the reading portion of our MAP tests in the computer lab before going to lunch.   After lunch we went straight to music. Then we did a gallery walk where we voted on two of our favorite bullying teeshirt designs. We did a quick social studies lesson-rural areas-before heading to PE.   After PE was Snack followed by math. In math we wrote down equations, rolled a dice, and tried to fill in the missing pieces (i.e. 8+n=10). We finished the day with read aloud-The Mouse and the Motorcycle

We had a good, rainy day! Even though the weather wasn't great today...our class was!  We had daily five again.  Everyone seems to have their own favorite center to go to.  At word work this week, we rainbow wrote our spelling words.  At the writing center, we drew a picture of our favorite animal doing something.  We then added a sentence to our picture. I hope we all remembered a capital letter and a period!  We had library this morning.  We got to listen to a great story teaching us that bullying is rude.  This afternoon we had math.  Math today was all about break- aparts of 7!  Social studies was learning about the pilgrims and how their lives are similar and different to ours.  We got to see pictures of the pilgrims houses, their clothing, and how they made their food.  We brought home timelines today.  You have until Oct. 7th to work on your timeline at home!  I am very excited to see them. :)  Also, today something special happened.  We have been so good in class lately, that we earned ourselves a pajama/popcorn party!!!!!!  Don't forget to wear your jammies tomorrow.  Have a wonderful night! See you on Friday!

Today in math we worked with the partners of 7.  We are getting SO GOOD at partners.  We also practiced at our spots with lambs jumping over a fence.  Next, we got to go outside with Mr. Harker since we have been working so hard.  During social studies we talked about the past.  Then we created our timelines to bring home and work on with our families.  This timeline is going to show the past, present, and the future.  After lunch, we had language arts where we made word families and put sentences in the right order.  After music, we ended our day with the DAILY 5!   We also earned a PARTY today!  Tomorrow come in your jammies for some popcorn!! I can't wait to see you tomorrow for our second day of CMART!!!
