We started our day on the ipads making picture for Max's birthday!  Happy Birthday Max!  Then we had our calendar!  After that, we did a little bit of math where we added up coins, made hard patterns, and did the Cupid Shuffle!  We are getting really good at left and right.  Next, we had our Minnesota day!   Today we reviewed what different things in Minnesota was.  Have your child quiz you tonight!  We all looked GREAT in our Minnesota gear!  After lunch, we wrapped up fire safety.  Look for a fire truck in your child's backpack.  Then after our last day of rollerskating, we celebrated Max's birthday! Thank you to Max and his parents for bringing delicious cupcakes!  After that, we painted pumpkins.  Miss C did not have any orange or green paint so we had to mix it up!  Ask me what colors make orange and what colors make green.  Finally, we ended with Cmart and free play!  Next Monday and Tuesday  Miss C will not be here, so there will not be any posts on our blog.  I can't wait to see you all on Wednesday!

Today was the best day!  This morning we read "The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid of Anything" and  we did art.  In art class, we worked on mixing colors.  We made orange by mixing yellow and red.  We made green by mixing blue and yellow. Finally, we made purple by mixing blue and red.  Once we mixed our colors,  we painted pumpkins with silly faces.  Then, we got our own book bags.  We each got to choose 3 or 4 books from our classroom library to add to our Read to Self bags.  The best part is that all of these books are books that we can read!!  After recess,  we had  music and library. This afternoon we finished our Minnesota books and took our Minnesota test.  We all learned so much about Minnesota this week!  We had math last today.  We worked more on counting nickels and pennies.  I hope you all have a fabulous, long weekend!  See you back here on Monday!

Happy Friday! Today we finished our Theme 1 language arts testing (unit 1). The comprehension section of this test is always a challenge for students every year. Aside from that, they did wonderful. After our testing we did a few short centers. Then we went to the computer lab to AR test. After lunch we had a math lesson on equation chains (i.e. 5=4+1=1+4=3+2=2+3). Then we did social studies where we reviewed landforms and learned about the compass rose. We located stated on a map using directions. We had computer, turtle time, and PE to end the day! Have a wonderful long weekend!

Today we had a wonderful morning. We did a language arts lesson followed by Theme 1 testing. They did well on most everything. We will continue to work on reading comprehension. :) After indoor recess (we watched Magic School Bus), we had PE followed by another reading test. Then we went to Music. After music we took a snack break/title 1. Then we did a math lesson. There we worked to add or subtract by counting on, using a number line. We ended the day with RTI/Unfinished work time. Reminders: Picture re-takes next Friday the 25th. Book orders due next Friday the 25th. No school this Thursday and Friday! Enjoy! :)

MN
When we arrived today we got what the ipads.  Today didn't go as smoothly as yesterday, but we aren't going to give up.  We are persistent and know this will work!!  During the movie today Miss C. told us to draw three pumpkins, two bats, yourself trick-or-treating, and a spooky moon.  Then we had our calendar.  After that, we had math.  Today, math was better to learn as a whole group.  So we played a quilt game.  Look for it in our folders!! It's a lot of fun.  We started sharing our maps today.  Lindsey's was AWESOME and AMAZING!!  Stella's has TONS of roads!  Alyssa's has a lot of green grass.  Ethan's has a bike and four wheeler trail.  Briar's has a bunch of twisty roads.  Joelle's is so colorful.  Elijah's has a lot of homes.  John's has a lot of hotels!  I can't wait for you to see them when they come home next week.  During lunch we had to stay in and we watched Boo Busters!  We loved it.  Then, we had fire safety.  Today we talked about things to STAY AWAY FROM!  For example: matches, cigarettes (for other reasons too), fire place, candles, and anything hot.  After library today. we studied MN!   It was a lot of fun.  Ask your child which device they worked with.  We then looked up the MN state bird, tree, flag, and flower!!  We made books with what we found!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

Today was good, but busy day!  This morning we did some more language arts review.  We played the game PIG with a partner to help us practice our high frequency words.  The words that we are working on this week are: find, much, and thank.  We wrote some more sentences today and circled only the telling part.  We are getting quite good at this!  After language arts, we did some more fire safety.  Today we learned about some more rules when dealing with fire/fires.  We colored a big fire truck and added on five fire safety rules to the windows of our fire trucks!  Homework tonight is to check our smoke alarms.  Try to remember!  This afternoon, we had music and PE.  Math today was playing an addition game.  This game is coming home tonight.  Have your child show you how to play!  Our day ended with social studies.  We looked at a bunch of different maps of Minnesota.  We learned that Lake Superior is our biggest lake. We learned that our state capital is St. Paul and we learned that the  Mississippi River runs through most of our state!  I hope I see all of your shining faces tomorrow morning!  Don't forget tomorrow is MINNESOTA Day!

This week we are learning about Fire Safety.  Today we talked about things that can cause fires and we talked about what to do in case of a fire.  We know that if we were to ever catch on fire we would need to STOP, Drop, and Roll!  Do not run that will only make the fire bigger.  Before we went to music this morning, we did some language arts review.  We worked more on telling sentences and identifying the telling part of a sentence.  We will work more on this the entire week, along with our high frequency words.  This afternoon,  we took our Unit 2 social studies test and started our Minnesota unit.  We learned about our state bird, our state flower, our state tree, our state flag, and our state muffin just for fun!  Everyone thought that it was pretty cool that our state muffin is the blueberry muffin. :)  Our day ended with math and PE.  Math today was working more on counting on.  We practiced counting on from the greater number.  We underlined the greater number and drew dots on top of the smaller number.  Math seems to be clicking for everyone...keep doing your homework every night.  Everyone is doing a great job at this! I hope you all have a great night, try to stay dry!  See you all back here tomorrow!

Right when we walked in, we had math with iPads!  We worked with our critical friend and got the website that has our class lessons.  The website is Sophia.org.  The login  for each student is their first initial and last name and their password is either their home phone number or their mom's cell phone number.  Just so we can practice these all the time.  :)  For it being our first day on the ipads we did awesome!  Miss C was so impressed.  After that we did our calendar.  Then, we had math centers.  They were a lot of fun.  Some sad news that we got today was that Gavin moved and won't be back to our classroom.  We sure will miss Gavin!  After math we worked on our maps.  Some of us came and completed our social studies test in a small group with Miss C.  The rest of us will take it tomorrow.  After lunch, we finished up our maps and then had phy ed with Mrs. Vessel Johnson just so we could get another day of roller skating in.  Then we learned about fire safety.  Remember to send back your meeting place.  Tonight, I want all dads or moms to set off the fire alarm so that we know what it sounds like.  Also, make sure you check the batteries.  After that, we learned about Minnesota!  It's such a fun week!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

We had a great Friday! We started by our star student presenting her poster. Then we reviewed our language arts that we covered this week. We had fun friday game centers that the boys and girls had a blast with-painting word wall words, building words from yellow cubes, playing a direction following board game, playing charades with our word wall words, and doing a reader's theater play. After this we had a few minutes to read to self. After lunch we had music followed by a first grade class coming in to read with us (we were fill in reading buddies for the day). They were great leaders for this. We had social studies where we reviewed landforms. We also took an algebra quiz in math. Then we had computer, turtle time outside, and then played a game of silent ball! Have a fantastic weekend!!
