We had a great morning!  I had a sub this afternoon, but our morning went really well. We were very productive! For language arts we read our decodable reader all together. Then, we highlighted the short u words and partner read the story.  After that we had Daily 5!  Since we are working on lists this week, we wrote a Christmas Wish List at the writing center.  At the word work center, we practiced writing our spelling words and stamping them. I love watching how independent everyone has gotten during Daily 5.  Everyone knows what their job is and what is expected of them.  It is amazing to see!  From the notes that the sub left for me, it seems that we had a great afternoon as well.  I am excited to see you all back here tomorrow!  Have a nice night.

Stamina Building Math Centers-Story problems Star Student Chair-stamina building Today we did our normal morning routine followed by calendar. After calendar we did our daily math warm up and then got into our language arts smartboard work. We reviewed our robust words for the week (brisk, strutted, gobbled, paced, request, negotiate, compromise, and improve), as well as our sight words. We talked about writing juicy sentences and adding details to our work. I hung up 4 different writings and we stared them with a 1, 2, 3, 4. We are aiming to make all our writing 4's! During center time we pretended we were turkeys as thanksgiving is quickly approaching. What are we going to do? Should we hide? Should we write a letter to the president telling him to make a different bird the tradiational thanksgiving dinner? We laid down, and visualized what we should write about. We then got with a friend and discussed before setting off to work. We are going to write a rough draft, then conference with the teacher, before making a final draft. After lunch we did a math lesson on story problems and venn diagrams. We then had 20 minutes to work on stamina building before we headed off to computer. After computer we had snack as we worked to finish unfinished work. We are trying very hard to get 25 turtle time points (we didn't have free time Friday, instead we carried those minutes over to start this week) in order to have a PJ party! We went to PE at 2:15 and then packed and stacked and headed for home! *I've started coaching basketball so I may be posting some posts during my prep before the end of the day in order to rush off to that :) *Remember that Wednesday Nov 27th is an early out day. No school the 28th and 29th.

Today went by fast. In language arts we reviewed sight words and robust words. Then we read the book "Click, Clack, Moo," as a whole class. We broke into center time and the boys and girls did a good job listening to reading, working on writing, word work, read to self, and work with teacher. After lunch we went straight to PE. We had a little time before music, in which we did our monthly handwriting journals. After music we had a break for snack which the boys and girls used to do unfinished work. Then we had a review math lesson on equation chains and story problems. We talked about odd and even numbers, and the math centers focused themselves around this. The end of the day consisted of RTI time and a few pages of a science book called "First Big Book of Why." See you tonight and Thursday night for conferences!

We had a good day!  We have almost earned 30 tallies for a party!  Today for reading, we practiced our sight word flashcards.  We read a story called "Plant's Can't Jump!".  Four things that we learned from reading this story are:  plants can eat bugs,  bugs can eat plants, roots go down and stems go up,  and plants can grow just like us!  This story was full of fun facts about plants.  We practiced short u words and we made a list of movies and nouns.  It was cool making lists!  We had music and PE after recess.  We have been busy practicing our songs for our concert.  We are sounding GREAT!  For science we finished our posters on our specific system.  We are ready to teach our class all about each system in our human body! Math today was working more with subtraction story problems.  We even threw in nickels and pennies.  One thing that I noticed today was that we need to remember what we started with when we go to write our subtraction equations.  Tonight is conference night!  I am very excited to see many of you and your families!  See you bright and early tomorrow for another great day!

Today we started with math right away.  It was so much fun to have Ceci's grandma in our class.  She helped us with patterns that are growing.  Check out our folders tonight to see what we did with her.  We also practiced making word problems with figures.  Miss C also had us take a quick quiz that we all did fabulous on!  Next, we had science.  We had the skeletal and circulatory systems share their posters and then we watched a short movie on each.  The circulatory system's main organ is the heart.  The skeletal system's main thing is the skeleton.  In music, we practiced our Christmas songs.  They are turning out great!  After lunch we were WOWED by Max reading the book Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss.  He did an amazing job!  You should have heard his expression.  Then, we finished our lesson 8 test and moved on to reading a book with a lot of u's in it.  Then we wrote details about that book!  There were a lot of details about JUNK!  :)  Next, we practiced our new high frequency words by playing flash cards.  After that we had library.  In library we watched a movie and some of us shopped at the book fair.  After that, we read another story with our high frequency words.  We also learned our new vocabulary and writing skill.  Finally, we ended our day with writing details about a story!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!

Today we started with our spelling pretest right away!  The kids did great with the new sound u.  Next, we went into math.  Math was a lot of fun we cut out new flash cards with subtraction on them.  Tonight, have your mom and dad go against each other.  Let's see who knows their subtraction better.  Then we played a Veterans Day math game.  One of the games you had to add, the other you subtracted.  Next, we talked about Veterans Day!  Some words we use to describe Veterans are......brave, army, serve, marines, hero, remember....we even found out that there are veterans in our school.  Then we called and thanked two veterans!  It was a lot of fun.  Look for our quilt in the hallway, thanking the veterans.  We made it with the help of Mrs. Boese's kindergarteners.  After lunch, we finished up our quilt then we worked on our new sound u.  Don't forget that it is the book fair this week if you want to send money to have your kiddos go buy some new books.  Also, don't forget about CONFERENCES this week!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow!!

We are proud to be Americans!  Today was a wonderful Monday!  We had language arts right away this morning.  This week we are working on the short u sound.  Ask your child how he/she remembers what sound the short u makes.  We read the story "A Nut Falls" which helped us practice the short u sound.  We are continuing to work on nouns this week, but now we are focusing on animals and things.  We had music and PE.  Since today is Veteran's Day we read the book "Boo Boo Bears Mission" and we talked about Veterans.  We also made a little Veteran's book.  We are very PROUD of all of our Veteran's. Our day ended with math.  We worked more with math mountains and subtraction story problems.  We are getting quite good at these!  Have a great night.  See you tomorrow!  Don't forget, some of you have conferences!

Happy Friday!  Today was a busy, but very productive day!  This morning we had language arts.  We reviewed our vocabulary words and practiced filling in sentences with our high frequency words from this week.  Then, we took our weekly lesson's test.  After our test, we finished up our thankful writing piece.  You will get to see these displayed in the hallway at conferences!  This afternoon, we had PE, music, and 3rd grade reading buddies!  Math today was working more with story problems and unknown partners.  The more we practiced these, the better we are getting!  Our day ended with B-Mart and free choice time.  Today flew by!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.  I can't wait to see you back here on Monday morning!
