It was a SUPER day!  We had daily five.  In daily five we got to do our rough draft of our personal narrative.  We did this at the writing center.  In word work, we had to put our spelling words in a chart.  Some words started with qu, some started with wh, some ended with t, and then we had to find all the words that had two vowels.  This was a little tricky!  After daily five, we went to library and we drew a picture of penguin Pete.  In computer we finished writing our little bird tale stories.  Some of us finished, some did not.  For science today we learned about clay, sand, and humus.  We also talked about rocks and natural resources.  Did you know that air is a natural resource?  At the end of the day we had math.  In math we were working on subtraction problems.  We learned the how to make a ten strategy to help us solve these problems.  We will need to keep practicing this strategy.  Have your child play his/her blue deck of cards this weekend!  See you all tomorrow!

Today we had a very productive morning! We did some of our lesson 14 language testing as well as our mid year benchmark tests. We did our daily 5 centers, and were so focused and productive that we had time for a vocab game called "Boogey Monster." They had a blast playing this. After lunch we had music followed by another testing period before PE. We ended the day with Math centers, focusing on the addition methods of show all totals and new groups below. Have a great night! Working on a non-fiction writing piece A Math dice make-a-monster game during math centers

Today was our last day of MAP testing.  It was at the very end of the day!  The kids worked so hard.  I look forward to sharing their data with you at conferences.  Speaking of conferences, I sent home the conference sheet today.  Please sign and return them as soon as possible!  If things need to be switched around, it's easier to know sooner more than later.  Today, was a great day.  Our math centers were awesome today!  The kids were so focused and working hard.  Math is definitely getting more challenging, so keep up with those movies.  :)  Language arts was fun today!  We worked with qu, wh, and our new high frequency words.  We sure have learned a lot this year already!  I can't wait to see everyone tomorrow!

We had another good day!  In reading we read a biography about Tomas Rivera.  We worked more with I and me and we continued working on our sloppy copies for our personal narrative.  This afternoon we had science.  We learned about what makes up the Earth.  Did you know that Earth has more water than land?  After science we went to music and library.  We ended our day with math.  In math we worked a lot on finding the unknown partner in a story problem.  You will see some purple make-a-ten cards in your child's folder.  Have them play this game at home!  I hope you have a fun night.  I can't wait to see you on Thursday!

Today was a great day back!  We are almost back into our normal routine of things.  We did have our third day of MAP testing today.  Today was the first day of math and we will finish it TOMORROW!  The kids have been working hard.  We also had our math centers today.  We do so well working in our groups.  I'm so proud of the kids on how hard they work all day, especially in math!  It's such a new concept, the way we learn with flipped, and everyone is doing great.  In language arts we learned about the sounds qu and wh.  It was a TOUGH pretest today!  These are definitely sounds that we are going to have to practice this week!  Finally, we started our personal narrative.  Some of the kids totally took of with their writing, some even finished!  We love to have time to just write, especially about ourselves.  I can't wait to see everyone TOMORROW!

Today we started lesson 14 of language arts. We took a pre-spelling test. We learned new sight words and new robust vocabulary. We talked about pronouns, how they are words that replace nouns (she, he, they, we, etc). For center time, the boys and girls practiced their spelling words with fancy letters, wrote about what would happen if they joined the circus, listened to our lesson's story "Rainforest Babies," read to someone, and read to self. We had a little time for writing, so we talked about Martin Luther King Jr, and then wrote what our dream would be. We had indoor recess where we watched "Finding Nemo," or drew in our notebooks. Then we went to PE followed by a unit review of S.S before our test tomorrow. We had music, snack, and then math. In math we learned different methods for adding two digit numbers; Show All Totals, New Groups Below, and New Groups Above. We will continue to work on these! For math centers the boys and girls did the MATH rotations (M=manipulatives, A=a flashback, T=teacher time, and H=hands on). They played number battlesship, did some flashcards, played bump it, met with me on the new methods for addition, and also played MEGA MATH on the smartboard. We had a bit of a loud and squirrely afternoon, so we had a little chat before we headed home :) Have a nice night! Martin Luther Writing Mega Math-tens and ones game

Today was a good day!  We had reading this morning.  In reading we are working on two sounds this week.  We are working on the "qu" and "wh" sounds.  We read two stories today.  They were "A Quiz for Brent" and "Quint and the Squids".  After lunch we had music, PE, and our last round of MAP testing!  WOO HOO!! Our day ended with math.  In math we worked on showing different coin amounts using the fewest coins possible.  Have a great night! See you all tomorrow!

Great short morning! We spent time getting caught up on unfinished work. Then we talked about the format for an opinion paper 1. State your opinion. 2. List your reasons. 3. End with a closure. They did a great job getting started on this writing. We played silent ball before lunch, then had indoor recess followed by dismissal. Enjoy your long weekends!

Today was a busy day!  We started right away with our math centers!  We worked with Mrs. Sweere on our activity sheet.  Miss C. reviewed with us and had us take a quiz.  The other centers were working with money and sticks/circles.  I don't know if it is the weather, but we had EXTRA energy today.  Thank goodness we were able to go outside and play.  After lunch, we worked on our handwriting and also talked more about the reason an author would write something.  In one of the passages we read today, the author wanted us to know what to do if there was a lost dog.  Another book was to teach us that all brothers and sisters go through arguments, but can always have fun.  After that, we had daily 5.  Word work today was searching through 'snow' to find our spelling and bonus words!  I can't wait to see you all tomorrow.

Today we had a good day!  For reading we had daily five.  It was a fun reading day!  At the word work center we had to build our spelling words with scrabble tiles.  Then, we had to add up how many points each word was worth.  At the writing center we continued writing our final draft of our sequencing story. Next, we had library.  In library we watched a movie about Martin Luther King Jr.  After lunch we had computer.  We are almost done with our little bird tales. In social studies we read a poem about Martin Luther King Jr. that we had to illustrate and we cut out our hand prints for a special project. Last, we had math.  In math we played a math game called Dime Detective.  This game helped us with finding partners of 100.  We had to hid some dimes and the detective had to figure out how many cents were hidden underneath the paper.  See your bright and shiny faces tomorrow! Don't forget tomorrow is an early release.
