Grade 7&8 Summer Reading

Grade 7&8 Summer Reading
Posted on 06/07/2019
Summer ReadingAll incoming seventh and eighth graders need to read two books during the summer. THERE ARE NO PAGE OR MINUTES REQUIREMENTS, but one book needs to be non-fiction and the other needs to be fiction. Students may choose their own books to read, and their summer reading grade will be based on the written and signed verification form for both books.(These verification forms will be provided before the end of the current school year.) Parent signatures on these forms will certify the reading has been completed. Students must bring these forms to their English class on the second day of school in the fall. This program is based on the honor system. The forms can be found by clicking the links below, or on Mrs. M. Johnson’s web page.
While we certainly encourage daily reading of newspapers and magazines, the summer reading requirement involves books only. Students may look for books at the local library or ask their current teacher to suggest an appropriate book for them. The summer reading grade will be the first grade students earn in the fall! It will contribute to their overall Quarter 1 grade in each of the seventh and eighth grade English classes. Think how  wonderful it would be to start the first Quarter 1 with an "A". Happy Reading!
