Mr. Leibfried

Hello My Name Is...

Matthew Leibfried

Greetings Esko community! My name is Matt Leibfried and I am excited to teach High School English in Esko. I am teaching English 7, 8, and 11th grade American Literature. I have an undergraduate degree in music from DePaul University in Chicago, IL, and earned my teaching license through The College of Saint Scholastica. Prior to pursuing a career in education, I worked with adjudicated youth in wilderness therapy programs, led wilderness trips through a summer camp, and worked as a case worker with adults in the Duluth community. I am excited to use my work experience to connect the English classroom to the world around us. I enjoy teaching Classic American Literature and the growing genre of Young Adult Literature. The required reading at Esko exposes students to some of the very best writing available to us in these areas. I choose to read books from these two genres during my personal reading time as well; students should find it easy to see that I am personally engaged and excited to teach these books! In my free time, I enjoy playing my trumpet in local jazz and classical ensembles. I am also active as a runner, mountain biker, climber, and nordic skier. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach in Esko and to be a part of the local community. I will work hard to provide a meaningful classroom experience to my students. I look forward to a fun and challenging year in English!
