Second Grade Curriculum
What can my child expect in the Second Grade Title I class?

Students experience more complex texts and learn an amazing 500 sight words during their year in 2nd grade Title I. They continue to develop phonics skills as they learn more vowel combinations and multiple syllable decoding strategies. Comprehension skills are expanded into being able to draw conclusions and recognize cause and effect. Through high interest stories and engaging games for reinforcement, students typically make steady growth toward reading independence. Vocabulary reinforcement, of the words being taught in the regular classroom, broadens the student's comprehension of written material.
Materials used in the 2nd grade curriculum include Harcourt Intervention materials, and Leveled Literacy daily reading books. Multiple games and manipulative activities are used for making words and developing the focused skills.
