Mr. Nielsen

Welcome to Mr. Nielsen's Room.

I have been teaching since 1989. I graduated from Moorhead High school, received my B.A. in Political Science from MN State University-Moorhead, and my M.A. in Elementary Education from University of St. Thomas.
I have taught both fifth and sixth grade and all subject areas. Writing, math, and history are some of my favorite subjects to teach, and I integrate all subjects as much as possible when teaching. I try to foster an environment in the classroom where cooperative learning can take place and students take charge of their own learning - the challenge of creating this environment each year with a new group of students energizes me!
My family and I moved to this area after living in Minneapolis-St. Paul, where my wife and I both lived after growing up in Moorhead, MN. My wife Kirsten and my daughter Annika make up my family, but our seven-year old labradoodle “Dayzee” and our puppy "Cooper" are pretty much family too.
When I’m not teaching you can probably find me with my family lugging a canoe through the woods, getting tossed off my mountain bike or wiping out at Spirit Mountain, trying to get through a stack of books, listening to music or pursuing one of many hobbies.
